Labster is committed to making its science simulation platform as useful as possible for every learner. In this session, Labster's Accessibility Lead, Monika Starnawska, and Labster's Sr. Learning Experience Designer, Mike Ulanski, will discuss Labster's journey to enrich and enhance the learning experience for all students. They will speak with Tonie Liquori, a student impacted by this work, and Lewis R. Mattin, PhD, a lecturer who is passionate about supporting students' diverse learning strengths and preferences using Labster and other digital tools.

Accessibility Lead

Labster

Monika Starnawska has a strong scientific background thanks to graduating biotechnology master's programme at Technical University of Denmark. She started her career journey at Labster's Copenhagen office as Scientific Writer, expanding her expertise in product development and advancing into the role of Product Manager. She gained extensive knowledge of digital accessibility and now serves as an expert in accessibility at Labster, supporting the company in making scientific learning more inclusive and engaging for all learners.

Sr. Learning Experience Designer

Mike Ulanski is a Sr. Learning Designer at Labster. He is passionate about creating cross-channel content and leveraging technology to deliver engaging and effective curricula and believes that learners are valuable stakeholders in the process. He is dedicated to alleviating pain points like access and interest to achieve positive, measurable outcomes. Over the course of his career, he has consistently blended emerging technology with educational best practices to design content and learning pathways that align with international standards and keep learners engaged and progressing.

Corning Community College

Tonie Liquori, a 35-year-old community college student and mother of two toddlers, has successfully leveraged Labster's virtual labs to enhance her learning experience. She used the platform in her Introduction to Environmental Science and Sustainability class at Corning Community College in New York. With 95% of her coursework completed online, Tonie appreciates the flexibility and accessibility Labster offers, especially as it caters to her learning needs as an individual with ADHD.

Lewis R. Mattin, PhD
Lecturer in Human Physiology
University of Westminster

Lewis R. Mattin, BSc (Hons), MRes, PhD, PGdip, fHEA, is a lecturer in Human Physiology at the University of Westminster, where he holds several teaching leadership positions. He is committed to using his position as an educator to elevate awareness of students' diverse learning strategies and help to knock down traditional barriers to student success. Lewis is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, the representative for The Physiological Society at the University of Westminster, and a member of the public engagement committee of the Society for Endocrinology. He is actively engaged in research aiming to recognize how the human microbiome triggers the gut-brain axis, leading to changes in appetite and gut permeability, as well as the relationship between diet and exercise within ethnic minorities.
