On many campuses, the mental health and well-being of students is a top priority — but what about faculty and staff? If faculty working conditions are student learning conditions, we have to be taking care of faculty and staff well-being as well. In this keynote by Dr. Rebecca Pope-Ruark, author of Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Pathways to Reckoning and Renewal, we'll examine the current culture of higher education, and STEM specifically, and some of the conditions that make it ripe for burnout to flourish. Then we'll look through the lens of connection and balance to create healthier cultures in our classrooms, labs, and institutions.

Rebecca Pope-Ruark, PhD is director of the Office of Faculty Professional Development at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is the author of Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Pathways to Reckoning and Renewal; Agile Faculty: Practical Strategies for Managing Research, Service, and Teaching and coeditor of Redesigning Liberal Education: Innovative Design for a Twenty-First-Century Undergraduate Education.
