Metallic bonds

Metallic bonds hold atoms together in a metallic substance. In metals, electrons leave the atoms’ outer valence shell, forming positive metal ions and a ‘sea’ of delocalised electrons. Interaction between these charges species creates a bonding force that holds the metallic crystal together.
